From Florida Wildlife Federation

Dear Thomas,

Thanks to you and all the conservation advocates on the ground, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) announced a pause to the Northern Turnpike Extension. Today, FDOT stated there are ‘no viable proposed corridors.’

In 2021, we collectively killed the Southwest corridor which could have led to the end of the Florida panther. FWF, alongside the No Roads to Ruin coalition, continues to support grassroots opposition of the remaining toll road alignments. The toll roads pose a grave threat to our rural lifestyles, our Florida springs and the Florida Wildlife Corridor.

FWF continues to work with our coalition partners, community advocates and you to turn this pause into a permanent ‘No Build’ decision.

Many thanks to all who continue to fight back against the misguided toll roads.

Thank you!

Publishers Note: Let me warn you this is just a pause. Until they disband the Turnpike Authority Enterprise, there will be no peace! The Turnpike management group was started to build a Toll road from south Florida to Central Florida. Town’s popped up on both side and so did crime. A criminal could committee a crime hit I-75 or the turnpike and be in another county in minutes. A lot of trafficking happens on these roads.

The money we pay to use this Turnpike is being used to support the Turnpike Authority. It should come under the DOT and that title Turnpike Authority should disappear. It’s also costing the tax payers a lot of money.

Many thanks to Florida Wildlife Federation for acknowledging our efforts.

TomL
