The Ocala Metro Chamber & Economic Partnership, along with CareerSource and Duke Energy, partnered together to thoroughly examine the underlying reasons for a persistently low labor force participation rate (LFPR) in Marion County. The three components used to conduct the LFPR analysis consisted of an assessment of local, regional and national data related to workforce, demographics and employment trends; interviews with local employers to examine the actual recruiting and hiring experience; and a large-scale survey of the working-age population.

The CEP and our partners know that by understanding why individuals are not in the workforce, we can better prepare our workforce and increase the overall economic vitality throughout the Ocala Metro.  Continue reading

-Air B&B in The Villages?

Apparently, many residents feel that short-term rentals in The Villages should be stopped.
Over-all management of residential districts and amenities in The Villages is controlled by several ‘CDD’s.

These ‘Community Development Districts’ are appointed by the Developer.

Obviously, that being the case, their primary function is to protect the best interests of the ‘Developer/Ownership/Management.

So far they have not addressed the short-term rental market issue. Continue reading

Lake County sheriff’s detectives are investigating an incident that left two people dead from apparent gunshot wounds last night (August 25) in the northeast part of Lake County. The incident occurred at 45918 Pennsylvania Road in Altoona at approximately 9 p.m.

Deputies responded to the residence after receiving a report of two people at the home being shot. Upon arrival, two male victims were found deceased. The deceased victims have been identified as 34-year-old David Thomas Mikell of Umatilla and 41-year-old Shane Eugene Clements of Altoona.

Detectives have developed leads and are following up on the information. The shooting was not a random act and the two persons of interest do not reside at the residence.

The investigation is active; therefore, no further information is being released at this time. Further details will be provided once they become available.
