Sounds pretty simple right? So I thought I would mention it so some of my competitors know how simple it is.
First let’s mention all the national and state agency’s that I correspond with. Everything has change with the information they have. Prices circulation methods of getting to the readers. They answer all of my answers with another questions. Finally I said look I am not filling out any more of your forms. I’m not answering any more questions. Don’t send me any more forms and don’t send them again and again. STOP!
I already am connected to the local, state, and national news, that works. I purchased a 20,000 email list for $1600. How am I going to get this list sent out. I agreed to a contract with Constant Contact to send out 20,000 emails per month with a link to my four newspapers. I had to find someone that was familiar with constant Contact, I found a real fearless Lady who said yes she knew Constant Contact. It is not and easy job if you have never done it before.
We have a great Graphics person who has agreed to continue to do the newspaper, she does not want extra work. She is the first person that ever made my newspapers look the way I wanted them to look. Very talented lady. I come from the old school and went through apprenticeships hot type and cold type to learn the trade. about headline sizes, avoiding head bumps, cropping picture. I retired from the Citrus County Chronicle, many years ago my publisher David Arthurs took rolls and rolls of pictures every week. I developed those rolls and made prints for the newspaper. He did not want just a picture he wanted it crop properly. So I learn how to crop a picture. I then taught someone else who taught someone else and etc.
Next step is telling my long time printer that June was my last issue. I was concerned about getting the last one printed. I told him and it went as good as could be expected. I don’t owe them any money. The printing bill was getting bigger and bigger, they did quality work.
Other than the newspaper ads and the email I need to back it up with another source to tell the current reads how to find us if they were not listening. Leesburg RADIO. I was on the air for a short interview about the papers going online and have ads running indefinitely as I write this. I still need a Ocala radio station to plug my online products. You really need a fund get you through the change over I am lucky I have.
Here we are on the week of sending the emails out. Will it work???Of course it will I love what I do and will continue under every circumstance, I am becoming a Warrior. I want to do what a do for the rest of my life and beyond. I’m sure I missed something but it will come out in the next issue.
