OCALA, Fla. (Oct. 18, 2017) – What moves you and how do you get from here to there? The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) and the Ocala/Marion County Transportation Planning Organization (TPO) will celebrate the second annual Mobility Week Saturday, Oct. 28 through Friday, Nov. 3, 2017. During Mobility Week, events will be hosted within the nine-County central Florida region including Brevard, Flagler, Lake, Marion, Orange, Osceola, Seminole, Sumter and Volusia counties.

The Mobility Week initiative is a grassroots effort to promote awareness of safe and sustainable transportation choices and how those choices can build stronger communities, reduce traffic congestion and improve community health. 

2017 Mobility Week events in Ocala/Marion County:

  • Brick City Trolley
    • Residents can enjoy this free trolley around downtown Ocala Monday, Oct. 30 through Friday, Nov. 3 from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily. This trolley will make stops throughout downtown Ocala, Ocala Union Station, 531 NE First Ave., and the medical district, including Ocala Regional Medical Center and Munroe Regional Medical Center.   • CarFit
    • Join us Monday, Oct. 30 from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the Eighth Avenue Adult Activity Center, 830 NE Eighth Ave., to get a better “fit” with your vehicle, learn proper car seat adjustments and more! For more information, please visit www.car-fit.org.
  • Walk Your Kids to School Day
    • This event will take place Tuesday, Oct. 31 from 6:30 to 7:30 a.m. at Sunrise Elementary, 375 Marion Oaks Course. Activities at this event will teach students ways to stay safe from predators while walking to school each day. This event is open to Sunrise Elementary students and families only.
  • Bike “ROADeo”
    • This event will be held at Oakcrest Elementary School, 1112 NE 28th St., Thursday, Nov. 2 and Friday, Nov. 3. This event is not open to the public.
  • Cycling Sav
    • In Cycling Savvy, participants will learn how bicycle crashes may happen and how to maximize safety with strategies that will eliminate potential conflicts with vehicles. All skills presented in this course are from the American Bicycling Education Association. Situational awareness, problem-solving, cooperation, communication and responsibility are some of the essential underpinnings of Cycling Savvy, which can enhance participants’ lives beyond successful bicycling.

      • Course 1 – The Truth and Technique of Traffic Cycling
        • Friday, Nov. 3 from 6 to 9 p.m. This course is free.
      • Course 2 – Train Your Bike (skills course)
        • Saturday, Nov. 4 from 8 to 11 a.m. This course fee is $50 and covers courses two and three.
      • Course 3 – Tour the City (guided bicycle tour)
        • Saturday, Nov. 4 from 8 to 11 a.m. This course fee is $50 and covers courses two and three.

In addition to this year’s Mobility Week events, Marion County residents are encouraged to take part in the Mix-It-Up challenge, a fun and free online competition where contestants can earn points, badges and prizes by logging their trips. The challenge is intended to encourage people to mix and match different modes of transportation in their daily life and compete for prizes furnished by Mobility Week partners.
