GAINESVILLE, FL —Congresswoman Kat Cammack (FL-03), with the Florida Fruit and Vegetable Association (FFVA), hosted a tour of Central Florida’s agricultural facilities to gather feedback from growers and producers ahead of the 2023 Farm Bill.
Every five years, Congress passes legislation that sets national agriculture, nutrition, conservation, and forestry policy, commonly referred to as the “Farm Bill.” With the 2023 Farm Bill on the docket this year, members of the House Agriculture Committee are gathering feedback from farmers, ranchers, producers, and foresters in their districts and states about the must-address issues in this year’s legislation.
In an effort to collect this critical feedback from producers in Florida, Congresswoman Cammack and stakeholders toured several farms and nurseries throughout Central Florida, speaking with representatives from each operation about their Farm Bill priorities.
Facilities on the tour included Wild Goose Farms in Umatilla, Dewar Nurseries, Inc. in Apopka, Southern Hill Farms in Clermont, and several other operations, with each specializing in a different commodity. Congresswoman Cammack had the opportunity to view blueberry and citrus farms, plant nurseries, strawberry fields, and more, learning about the different aspects of production for each product.
Throughout the tour, she spoke with growers and producers about the issues currently impacting their operations. Topics discussed include adjusted gross income, crop insurance, safety net programs for specialty crops, disaster preparedness, citrus disease research and development, and more.Congresswoman Cammack has been a member of the House Agriculture Committee since the start of her first term in 2021, and currently serves as the lone Florida Republican on the committee.
