FROM THE ATTORNEY GENERAL MOODY’S OFFICE:

We officially launched the 2023 Human Trafficking Summit. Our summit brings together survivors, law enforcement, prosecutors, victim advocates, community leaders and concerned citizens who are committed to working together to stop this crime.

John Walsh, television host and co-founder of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, is our keynote speaker for this year’s summit. As a nationally renowned crime fighter, victim advocate and host of the former hit television show America’s Most Wanted, Walsh has spent decades helping law enforcement locate missing children and solve crimes, including the recovery of more than 400,000 children. I am excited for our attendees to hear Walsh’s inspirational message about what we can do to fight back against criminals preying on vulnerable populations.

The summit has nine sessions covering subjects like how the opioid crisis is fueling human trafficking to supporting trafficking survivors in the workplace. Attendees will have access to 11 hours of educational content from leaders in the fight to end human trafficking. There is expert training available for law enforcement about proper ways to document and gather evidence and we also cover important information on how to work with victims so they can recover and heal as survivors.  Continue reading

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, U.S. Representatives Kat Cammack (R-FL-03), Rosa DeLauro (D-CT-03), Joe Courtney (D-CT-02), and Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA-01) introduced a resolution celebrating October 28 as Honoring the Nation’s First Responders Day.

“I’m honored to lead this resolution with my colleagues to honor our first responders. As the wife of a firefighter/paramedic and SWAT medic, this resolution is personal for me,” said Rep. Kat Cammack. “The men and women of our first responder community across the nation work tirelessly to keep our communities safe. They run toward danger when the rest of us run away from it and we should be tremendously grateful for their service and sacrifices each day. Imagining a world without them isn’t possible, and we thank you for all you do and will always stand with you.”

“When Americans find themselves in an emergency and in need of assistance, it is our nation’s first responders who stand on the front line ready to respond,” said Rep. Rosa DeLauro. “Whether they be firefighters, emergency medical technician, paramedics, or our brave law enforcement officers, first responders hold communities together, protect neighborhoods, and save lives. I am glad to lead my colleagues on a bipartisan resolution celebrating Honoring the Nation’s First Responders Day.”

“First responders, whether providing support after a natural disaster or caring for communities after tragic events like we saw this week in Maine, are the first on the scene to assist their communities in times of duress,” said Rep. Joe Courtney. “I continue to advocate for the necessary resources for our First Responders to carry out their mission and stay safe on the job. This Resolution is merely a display of gratitude and appreciation for our some of our most critical community partners.”

“As a formal federal law enforcement officer and former EMT, I know that our firefighters, law enforcement officers, emergency medical technicians, and paramedics are often the first to arrive and the last to leave the scene of any emergency,” said Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick, co-chair of the Congressional Fire Services Caucus. “Without question, the millions of heroic Americans that serve and risk their lives for our communities in this way each day deserve our appreciation. I am glad to join my colleagues in recognizing the contribution and public service of our first responders, and remain committed to continuing to secure more resources in support of their missions.”

After multiple rounds of voting, the House of Representative elected a new Speaker of the House on Wednesday. Congratulations to my colleague, Representative Mike Johnson of Louisiana, as he embarks on his Speakership. I’ve had the privilege to work alongside him on the Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government and know that he will lead the House with principle.

This week in Washington, I held a press conference with over a dozen of my colleagues for National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
