- Let me tell you about A Banyan Residence. What services are available at the facility?
- A Banyan Residence is an assisted living and memory care resort that is owned and operated by the founding family. Our family started in assisted living and memory care in 1998 with a unique concept that emphasized an independent and outdoor lifestyle that we’ve built into our design here in The Villages area. By dedicating three full acres to botanical butterfly gardens, waterfall koi fish ponds, walking paths, gazebos, and the like, we find seniors are able to relax peacefully in a home-like and comfortable environment. We also offer a giant clubhouse full of amenities to keep residents active from sun up to sun down. We have amenities such as a movie theater, hair salon, physical fitness gym, ice cream parlor, bistro, crafts room, library, and a state-of-the-art sensory room showing off cutting edge technology geared for senior living.
Beyond the building design itself, we are staffed and trained to provide any necessary assistance to keep our residents independent for as long as possible while still making sure their daily needs are met. Our custom culinary program is designed to provide exquisite meals that would go unrivaled in the industry. Our enrichment program keeps seniors of all types stimulated, active, and social with both on-campus daily events but also in the community, such as attending polo matches, live concerts, restaurant openings, and so on. Finally, our care program allows for seniors to rely on our staff to bridge the gap physically and mentally to achieve independence in their day-to-day lives while maintaining dignity and integrity. The Tuscawilla Art Park is located at 513 NE 5th Street, next to the historic Ocala Union Station. The park was built in 2016 and created in partnership with numerous artists and artisans, community groups, and private donors with the intention of providing an inspiring space for residents and guests of all ages to enjoy. Park visitors will find botanical plants, public art, and unique infrastructure including a stage, plazas, and wandering pathways through the three-acre park.
Each Spring, the Tuscawilla Art Park hosts the Spring Art Park Series featuring a musical concert in the park. In the past, the series has featured performances from Ethio-American artist Meklit, classical contemporary artist Simply Three, cellist and singer-songwriter Ben Sollee and indie bands Kindo and Little Tybee.

OCALA, Fla. (Feb. 24, 2021) – The City of Ocala is hosting a free tire disposal event Saturday, March 13, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Disposal locations will be at the corner of NE 14th Street and NE Eighth Avenue and the Hampton Aquatic Fun Center located at 255 NW Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.
Tires generated by businesses will not be accepted and there is a limit of 10 tires per resident. This service is for residents living within the city limits. A driver’s license listing a city address may be requested.

The City of Ocala Recreation and Parks Department will host four summer camps June 1 through July 30. Summer camp program offerings will be as follows:
Lily’s Leaping summer camp at Lillian F. Bryant Community Center, 2200 NW 17th Pl.
City Kids summer camp at E.D. Croskey Recreation Center, 1510 NW Fourth St.
Junior and senior summer camp at Discovery Center, 701 NE Sanchez Ave.
Junior Historians summer camp at Fort King National Historic Landmark, 3925 E. Fort King St.
City Kids and Lily’s Leaping summer camps will offer a new fun theme each week. Discovery Center summer camps provide opportunities for curious young scientists to learn more about the world around them. Junior Historians summer camp will explore local history and nature with young adventurers.
Detailed information about each camp, including how to register, can be found at www.ocalafl.org/summercamp. Fees and participant ages vary per program. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the following safety precautions will be in effect for day camp operations:
Guidelines for drop-off and pick-up protocols must be observed by all participants
Parents/guardians will not be permitted to enter the buildings
Temperature and health screenings at drop-off
Where practical, children will be seated six-feet apart and groups will be limited to 10 or less
All children and staff will be required to wear cloth face coverings
Camp registration begins Monday, March 1 for City residents. General registration for non-residents opens Thursday, April 1. Parents or guardians can register online via ActiveNet or by phone. Registration will be on a first come, first served basis.

The First Friday Art Walk will feature Retro Sounds, a music and art event, in downtown Ocala Friday, March 5, from 6 to 9 p.m. This year’s Retro Sounds event will celebrate the disco era of the 1970’s with a performance by Bee Gees tribute artists, Bee Gees NOW.
A band fueled by a moment in time during the disco era, the Bee Gees have become a timeless classic brand of American pop music. The Bee Gees were formed in 1958 by brothers Barry, Robin and Maurice Gibb. The movie “Saturday Night Fever” with John Travolta brought the band to the musical forefront in the 1970s with hits like “You Should Be Dancing,” “Stayin Alive” and “Night Fever.” Playing those hits and more, tribute band Bee Gees Now, brings that ’70s dance fever to downtown Ocala. While trying to deal with a deadly pandemic, police around the country were also faced with protests, violence, and general anti-police sentiment which seemingly swept across the nation. We, however, are lucky enough to serve a great community, one that supports their law enforcement officers while still demanding the highest level of professionalism and ethical standards. Clark Yandle of “Yandle Building Material” was named Ocala Business Leader of the year. Here you see President of OBL Tony Clayton of Ocala Electric presenting Clark Yandle his award. Clark has been a member for many years and is also highly visible in the community helping others and working hard for the improvement of the North Magnolia, what he calls the “MIRCLE MILE”. Clark Yandle is very deserving of the Business Leader of the Year award, congratulation Clark.
