This bus tour is free and open to the public. Space is limited.

OCALA, Fla. (April 30, 2019) – The City of Ocala will host a bus tour throughout West Ocala Thursday, May 16 at 6 p.m. The bus tour will depart from the E.D. Croskey Recreation Center, 1510 NW Fourth St., near the basketball courts.

Those in attendance will have the opportunity to learn more about upcoming projects in West Ocala and interact with City staff. This bus tour is free and open to the public. Space is limited.

This event will feature craft and non-profit booths, food trucks, novelty food vendors, in addition to beer and wine, which will be available for purchase. The Summer Break Spot will provide free dinners for those ages 18 and under. Each concert will also spotlight a local non-profit organization, who will conduct a special activity during the event’s intermission. Come and be educated by our community – the ecology and history of the Oklawaha River and the vital role played in the balance of nature.

The Marion County Genealogical Society will meet Thursday March 21, 2019 at 2 PM at the Marion County Public Library located at 2720 E. Silver Springs Blvd. in Ocala.  Free to the public. A fre​e art demonstration by award-winning artist, Milly Sheffer will be held at the Appleton Museum of Art, 4333 E. Silver Springs Blvd., Ocala, FL 34470-5001 in the upstairs library, on Wednesday, February 13, from 12 noon – 2 pm.

Milly Sheffer is an artist working primarily in oils, but she has worked extensively in watercolor as well.  She uses a brush or palette knife, prefers to work quickly and her work is primarily ala prima (completed in one session.)  She uses strong brushstrokes, pure color, pronounced texture, a mix of pattern, accents of bold line, and the blending of colors on the canvas; rather than on her palette. The First Friday Art Walk occurs from 6 to 9 p.m. on the first Friday of each month from September through May annually.

OCALA, Fla. (Jan. 14, 2019) – The First Friday Art Walk returns to downtown Ocala Friday, Feb. 1 from 6 to 9 p.m. and will include the following special performances and activities:

  • 6 to 9 p.m. – Live music by Macey Mac on the main event stage located at the downtown square near the gazebo.
  • 7 p.m. – Live dance performance by West Port High School’s MCCA Dance Program at the downtown square.
  • Free hands-on art activities for all ages will be provided throughout the event by the Appleton Museum of Art, Discovery Center, Painting with a Twist, Art Army of Ocala and the Marion County Public Library. Members of the Ocala Symphony Orchestra will also conduct a special musical activity for guests of all ages in front of the Marion Theatre.
