Coping with Dementia LLC and the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office have announced that Jesse James Allen will be the keynote speaker for the day-long conference on dementia that will take place at the Savannah Center in The Villages on October 30, 2023.

Allen is an international award-winning multimedia creator whose work has included music, art, photography, video games, public speaking, and museum and theme park development.  At the beginning of 2021, Allen stepped away from his career to become a fulltime care partner for his late father who had been diagnosed with dementia.  It was an exhausting task further complicated by the COVID pandemic.

Leo Magiera flew 21 missions as a Waist Gunner over Italy in WWII. That means the middle of the plane. Which probably was the hot spot.

He was born September 5th, 1923 in Illinois outside of Chicago and was raised on a farm. One if 8 or 9 children. Polish descent. He never married and moved some 38 years or so ago to Florida. Loves animals. He was our pet sitter until he has to give up this car.

The Quilting Guild of The Villages, composed of 24 chapters with more than 1,200 members, is currently making fidget mats that will be given away at the Coping with Dementia Conference at the Savannah Center at 1545 North Buena Vista Blvd. in The Villages on October 30, 2023.

A fidget mat – sometimes called a “sensory blanket” – is a lap quilt, usually the dimensions of an oversized placemat, that features a wide array of colors, textures, and interesting objects to keep hands busy.  They stimulate manual sensory activities for elderly people suffering from Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia while providing comfort, entertainment, and enjoyment.  They can also keep an elderly person from picking at their skin.

The conference is being organized by Coping with Dementia LLC in partnership with the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office, and is expected to draw more than 400 attendees for a day of educational discussion and events designed to make life better for individual and families living with dementia.   Continue reading

Government at work with our money!! A person dies at age 65 before collecting one benefit check. The person and employer paid into the system for almost 50 years and collected NOTHING! Keep in mind all the working people that die every year who were paying into the system and got nothing. These governmental morons mismanaged the money and borrowed or stole from the system so that it’s now going broke. Now they have the audacity to call today’s seniors “vultures” in an attempt to cover their ineptitude. The Government has borrowed 3 trillion from the Social Security Trust fund, our money in holding for trust that we and our employers paid in. This is the second year hosting the Health Expo Fundraiser for breast cancer. Our VIPcare primary care physician, Dr. Stephen Seecharan, (highlighted with his staff in the pictures below) graciously agreed to campaign for a second year as the Real Men Wear Pink candidate.  Last year, we raised $4,625 dollars for the American Cancer Society and this year we have raised $5,500 so far. The attendance at the Health Expo Fundraiser for breast cancer last year was 90 people, this year we had 110 community members attend this event. ALL the proceeds went to the American Cancer Society.
