LifeSouth Community Blood Centers still faces emergency need for all blood types, especially type O, and is asking the community to donate blood today.
The blood center remains on emergency appeal, although a decline in donations is typical during the winter and holiday months. LifeSouth needs the support of our community more than ever. Donors are urged to give blood during this critical time to ensure hospitals maintain the blood supply needed to save lives. Traumas and accidents can strike at any time, putting our community at risk.

(OCALA, Fla.) January 8, 2018 – It is with great sadness that Ocala Fire Rescue announces the passing of Firefighter/Paramedic Kevin Christopher Hart. Hart passed away unexpectedly, while off duty, on Saturday, January 6th, 2018; he was 41 years old. He is survived by his wife and daughter.
Beginning his career of service at the age of eighteen, Hart served in the United States Army’s 82nd Airborne Regiment, as a Ranger – completing his career as a decorated veteran with honors including a National Defense Service Medal and Army Service Ribbon, among others. In 2005, Hart joined the ranks of Ocala Fire Rescue, as a firefighter. He continued to serve honorably for nearly 13 years.

Phishing
The most widespread internet and email scam today is the modern day “sting” con game. “Phishing” is where digital thieves lure you into divulging your password info through convincing emails and web pages. These phishing emails and web pages resemble legitimate credit authorities like Citibank, eBay, or PayPal. They frighten or entice you into visiting a phony web page and entering your ID and password. Commonly, the guise is an urgent need to “confirm your identity”. They will even offer you a story of how your account has been attacked by hackers to lure you into entering your confidential information. Continue reading

Citizens Academy and Partnership (CAP) program, a free 13-week educational course about the operations of the Sheriff’s Office, is currently accepting applications for classes beginning in January 2018. During the program, MCSO staff will highlight all units within the Sheriff’s Office, giving citizens an in-depth understanding of what the agency is doing for the community. Each week will focus on a different aspect of the agency, personnel, equipment, policies, and procedures.
