There are so many incredible things happening in our community. Significant new facilities are under construction for the Red Rock Development and at all three hospitals.  The Power Plant Business Incubator continues to help innovative and scalable startups primarily in the areas of technology, health care, and communications. The downtown continues to generate enthusiasm with the new Hilton Garden Inn under construction, an ever growing line up of restaurants and stores, and more residential options in the works. All of this excitement and growth is in large part the result of our partners. Thank you for your engagement and investment in moving the Ocala Metro forward.

What is it that would make a person go hunting that normally does not hunt. I have met many that hunt. Some have trophy’s to show, some go for the camaraderie of sitting arounds the fire after the days hunt. That is certainly fun, telling stories, listening to stories, telling jokes. Others it makes them feel more like a man to say they are a hunter. Some people who have never hunted are content to sit in a tree stand and shoot a wild hog that has been baited up with a feeder. Some own and hunt with dogs. Some just quietly slip around in the woods by themselves. I prefer that kind of hunting. If you want to find out something about yourself, walk into a stand of palmetto bushes carrying a rifle (not for close up hunting) and hear a wild hog popping  his jaws to warn you not to come closer. What you do at this point tells you a lot about yourself. You like danger and you are sure of yourself you won’t back out. You move forward and handle what is coming at you in the bush. That happened to me. I bagged a wild hog so big that it took three grown men to load it in a truck. He had cutters that stuck out longer than your thumb. It told me I never wanted to do it again, but now I can say I stood my ground against a creature twice as big as me, that I could not see until he was up close and personal. It was not mounted as a trophy; it fed many needy people and was an experience and memory of a life time. Continue reading

Lady Lake Chamber holds a Business Luncheon called “Nothing But Networking”. They hold it in different restaurants. 50 to 60 Business people attend, but we have had as many as 100. We had so many people last month I misplaced my camera, which I found it later. The business people show up at 11:30, check in at the door and they are given a number. Everyone networks for a half hour. At twelve you go to the table that has your number and sit with the people at that table, order your lunch, learn about the business people at your table. You ask about their business and then tell them about your business. Especially share what is a good referral for you. If you want to find out, more call Janet at 352-753-6029 These businesses are good people looking for the same thing as you – MORE BUSINESS! Help each other!

For many years I have noticed that there are not many garages to service the cars in The Villages. Let me introduce you to a GEM, just minutes from The Villages.

Robert and Karen Gazda, husband and wife are owners and operators. They have a very good reliable staff of many years. Billy Brown Front desk customer service Representative. Also with them for many years are Sam James and Ron Bartlett. You learn something about a company when employees stay that long.

Rain or shine mechanical work gets done. What I like is they have a cover drive up so if it’s raining you can get out and go in to  talk to Robert or Billy. They have a good size show room, with lots of reading material in the waiting area, free coffee and TV. Continue reading

OBL  Speaker Les Singleton of Send Out Cards was a trainer for Dale Carnegie. He gave a session on how to Network, how to communicate, had some suggested questions and suggestions on how to respond. The information shared was very valuable. Everyone went through a drill picking someone they knew least about. In a few minutes they knew all about their business.

OBL Speaker Danan Hopkins of Allied Tax Group LLC, a semi-retired Tax Accountant spoke about new tax laws. Some do’s and don’ts when preparing your tax. Suggested  that complicated tax forms should be done by a qualified Tax Accountant.

(NAPSI)—The average American household now has nine Internet-enabled devices to connect to the Internet, watch movies or television shows, or “smarten” the thermostats, doorbells or nanny cams. These products let people save energy, buy groceries, connect with family members and access a seemingly limitless catalog of entertainment.

It’s important, however, to realize that some devices may not be as secure as others. For example, millions of rogue entertainment boxes are now in homes. While these devices look like an Apple TV or Roku box, they are unsecured and can expose consumers to malware. Typically, they are used to illegally access pirated movies, TV shows or live events.

The Digital Citizens Alliance (DCA)investigated apps on these devices and found malware on them that stole researchers’ user names and passwords, probed user networks and surreptitiously uploaded user data without consent. Most consumers are unaware of the security risks that can occur when plugging one of these devices into a home network, and if they did know, they would be much less likely to allow them in their home. (NAPSI)—Getting a flat tire is no fun for anyone at any time, especially on vacation. To keep your next road trip rolling along, the nonprofit Car Care Council recommends a quick tire check before you leave the driveway.

“The excitement of summer vacation quickly deflates when your car has a flat tire,” said Rich White, executive director, Car Care Council. “A quick four-step tire check will help you to avoid the aggravation of changing a flat tire on the side of the road.”

  1. Check that all tires, including the spare, are inflated to recommended pressure levels.
  2. Check tire tread depth with a simple penny test-if you see Lincoln’s head above the tread, then it is time for new tires.
  3. Check for irregular wear as uneven wear indicates a need for wheel alignment.
  4. Check tires for cuts, bruises, bulges, bald spots or other irregularities that can lead to a flat tire.

“AAA expects to get calls from stranded motorists this summer and a good portion of those vehicle troubles will be tire related,” said White. “A comprehensive pre-trip vehicle inspection, including the tires, is the best way to alert yourself to any potential issues so you can address them before you leave home and keep your road trip on track.” Continue reading
