OCALA, Fla. (April 22, 2019) – The City of Ocala’s local high-speed fiber internet provider, Ocala Fiber Network (OFN), will be sending representatives to the Happiness Homes neighborhood Tuesday, April 23, and possibly Thursday, April 25, to determine the level of interest in their service.

Residents should expect these consultants beginning at 1 p.m. wearing safety vests and OFN hats. They will share information about faster, more reliable internet available from OFN and sign up interested residents. New Hours of Operation: City of Ocala Customer Service Office Lobby

Effective Wednesday, May 1, the City of Ocala Customer Service Office will implement new hours of operation in the lobby area only.

OCALA, Fla. (April 16, 2019) – Effective Wednesday, May 1, the City of Ocala Customer Service Office will implement new hours of operation in the lobby area only. The City of Ocala Call Center will remain open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Effective Wednesday, May 1, the City of Ocala Customer Service Office lobby, located at 201 SE Third St., will be open Monday and Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Thursday and Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The lobby’s current hours of operation are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

This week, Governor Ron DeSantis issued an Executive Order establishing Florida’s Statewide Task Force on Opioid Drug Abuse. I am honored and humbled to serve as Chair of this vital 21-member team. From my very first day in office, we sought a formalized statewide structure to meet this crisis head on, and I am grateful to Governor DeSantis for taking swift action to establish this task force.

As a former federal prosecutor and circuit judge, I have seen how drug abuse destroys families and harms our state. When I began my campaign for Attorney General, I talked about the devastating reality that Florida lost 14 people to opioid overdoses every day. As I traveled the state, I had parents cry on my shoulder as they told me of losing their child to this epidemic.

 MARION COUNTY, Florida (April 9, 2019)- Detectives from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) and the Ocala Police Department (OPD) conducted a two-day operation on April 4th and 5th targeting suspects involved in retail theft crimes. With the cooperation of Walmart and their loss prevention personnel, MCSO and OPD all worked together to help reduce retail theft in Marion County.  After being observed committing retail theft crimes by loss prevention personnel and undercover detectives, 39 people were arrested with a combined total of 39 felony charges and 46 misdemeanor charges. 

During the operation, as individuals were apprehended for theft, detectives conducted interviews with the suspects to determine if they were involved with any additional crime in Marion County.   Numerous individuals that were arrested also received charges for drug possession or had warrants for other crimes previously committed.  Continue reading

Tallahassee, Fla. – Today, First Lady Casey DeSantis announced the 2019 Black History Month student contest winners and Excellence in Education Award recipients. This year’s theme was “Celebrating Public Service” and the winners were honored during the Black History Month awards ceremony at the Florida Governor’s Mansion. Black History Month is celebrated every year in Florida during the month of February.

Ocala Business Leaders Speaker Dustin Humphrey explaining how the company started, the different types of fencing, what he recommends. A lot of information was shared, then some people in the audience recommended Dustin based on work his company had already done. For info call 352-445-7225

This picture was taking early, before the opening. After the opening thousands upon thousands of people came through. Everyone I interviewed said it was busy beyond belief. Lady Lake Chamber Hob Nob is an event hosted by the Lady Lake Chamber and a local Restaurant. The last one was held at Demshar’s near Spanish Springs  in the Villages.  Local business people come to communicate with each other about their businesses, get to know other business people and enjoy the event. Door prizes are given out, furnished by businesses attending. Usually 75 to 100 business people attend. Join the Chamber, stay in touch with your community and the events.
