Tallahassee, Fla. – Today, Governor Ron DeSantis announced that the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) has issued a permit to the Department of Interior’s National Park Service, Everglades National Park, for the removal of 5.45 miles of roadbed along the Tamiami Trail (U.S. 41).

This critical project is a component of the larger Central Everglades Planning Project (CEPP), which also includes the Everglades Agricultural Area (EAA) Reservoir Project. CEPP will provide the necessary components to deliver additional freshwater from Lake Okeechobee south to Water Conservation Area 3, Everglades National Park and Florida Bay. Bridging Tamiami Trail remains one of Governor DeSantis’ priority Everglades restoration projects.

Publishers Note: When the state of Florida tout’s progress as a reason to build a road, you see the impact on the everglades and the ecosystem. Well the same thing happened when the state put in the Turnpike. They cut off the flow of water from east to west and west to east in a large portion in the state. While traveling the turnpike in the early days I watched the cypress heads dry up and disappear. You know the worst part of all this? They created a money making organization. First called themselves The Turnpike Authority, now it is called Turnpike Authority Enterprise. What does Enterprise mean??? We have created this money making, land grabbing machine that can’t be stopped or can it? What ever happened to the Department of Transportation? We only need one road construction company in the state of Florida. Governor DeSantis, can you figure out how to bring it down to one? Add lanes to the road that already exist and stop taking peoples land.
