It was the day before Thanksgiving at the Loury Farm. I had made a quick trip to the store. My wife was working in the kitchen making pies for the next day. When I came up the driveway I saw a bunch of cars and trucks. I could not imagine who was there and why they were there. It was my niece and most of her family.

They like to come and see the animals and show their children the animals. It’s interesting that a lot of children have never touch a cow, a donkey, a horse, a bull and various other animals that we have around. An occasional peacock will visit from the neighbor’s farm. They won’t let you touch them for survival reasons. Continue reading

I got a lot of feedback about the picture on the front page of the Lady Lake Magazine / Villages Spectator. If you look at the picture there are a lot of young men of military age. They are carrying a flag from their country of origin, not the US flag. Put that together with the fact that they confronted the Mexican military police throwing rocks. I just think we have to be careful.

I stood up for an immigrant who wanted very much to be a citizen. How many people can say that. He got his citizenship papers and is a fine upstanding American. But he did not cross the border illegally. He asked for a work permit and work for me. I taught him a trade. While working at his trade he went to college and got a degree. He bettered himself and his family. That is what I think an immigrant should show – his desire to be a good American. Crashing the border with a large group is not right!

I don’t agree with everything President Trump does and says but he is the best tool to cleanup corruption in Washington and world wide deals that our past politicians screwed up. I am for immigration but let’s do it right.

We are Statewide Award Winning, Yes we are. The Community Papers of Florida had their state conference at Hutchison Island and Resort, a great spot for a conference. At the end of the two day conference we got the results of our competition. We were in the top three in five categories for TomL Publishing LLC:

Three editorial awards that I share with several stringers!  We are proud!

Alex Baldwin the actor said we must overthrow the United States Government under Donald Trump.  Last month I was chastised by a reader when someone was discussing a civil war and now there is talk coming from well-known actors, actresses, and well-known democrats like Elizabeth Warren, Chuck Chumor, Hilliary Clinton and more about civil disorder. Even Obama who probably started some of this when he started siding with the Continue reading

Villages Florida: There is a running controversy over a resident displaying the flag. This is not a good thing to be on the wrong side of, especially right now! It does not have anything to do with Villages management; it has to do with residents in the community. There are yard ornament regulations.

Joe and Peggy, residents of the beautiful but massive community of the Villages, have a flag displayed in their yard. They were notified that they would have to take it down because it was classified as a lawn ornament. The residents say the flag is the flag, no matter how you display it. They are showing their patriotism in the only way they know how.

The flag is on a bracket that holds it in place rain or shine. It has a light on it. It stays in place in the wind also and the flag is replaced when needed. Continue reading

I guess the question today is Resist or Results? The American people are smarter than some would like us to think. The working people shopping a Walmart or spending money are what make our economy work. More and more of them are getting the idea that they need to vote. The working person was suppressed for eight years and now they are beginning to understand.

In the past, minorities have been promised a better way of life without contributing anything. That does not work. Look at all the people trying to flee other countries that have Socialism. Again it will only work for a little while. The rich move their money to another country where they don’t have to support people who don’t want to work.

All can I say is, to the working man and woman, please pay your taxes – 12 million undocumented residents are depending on you!   Continue reading

Print newspapers and their decline. In the US one of the largest print publications, with 13.2 million circulation, has been able to move only 750,000 to using digital format. Actually the same is true in the top three. AARP is the largest and Costco Connection is one of the top three.

A print newspaper is tangible, people can sit at the breakfast table with a cup of coffee and read the paper and any national poll will tell you that. Most full size tabloid newspapers are at least six times bigger than a smart phone and easier to manipulate. On a full size screen it is something else. I read our papers before we release it and it is easy to read on a full size computer screen and easy to go to the next page or back up.

Where was the American Flag made that you are pledging allegiance too? Millions of American Flags that we pledge to are made in China. To date we don’t have tariffs on them. “I say we should not let anyone import them here!” I was talking to a local business that sells made in the USA flags. He says people are selling these flags online and it does not seem to matter where it’s made! My flags were made by the American worker, transported to stores all over the USA by trucking companies and sold in the stores here in the USA. They cost a little more, but they should be worth it to the people pledging to flag. Some of the people making the flag could be vets or family members of those that gave the ultimate sacrifice. So please take the time to look at the flag you are buying and look at the flag you are pledging to and make sure it is made in the USA, the greatest country on earth! Look at all of the products you buy, I mean everything including groceries, especially meats & produce. Steaks grown in the USA and processed in the USA will cost more, but you know what is in the meat. A cattle rancher in another country could spray a field with pesticides while the beef steers are grazing there. The pesticide is then in the steers’ stomachs. Do you see what I mean? Buy USA!

TomL said that!

Civil War:

Last month I wrote how Civil Wars begin. The information I received was from the web about the writings of Jack Minzey who died this year. He studied the subject for many of years and wrote a number of books on the subject. History tells us what happened. The social and political behavior today fits that mold. Hatred and social disorder is out of control. We need more love and respect. If not love and if not respect, then tolerance. No matter who wins the election I would never try to unseat a president that was voted into office. In today’s society most people have guns because they feel they need to protect themselves and their families. THEY DO! Today if you don’t agree with your neighbor they get violent and verbally abusive. Right now I have someone verbally abusing me over this very story from last month. Continue reading

For a long time I have been hearing about Political PACs. So I decided to look it up on the internet. First it is short for “Political Action Committee”. Their purpose is raising and spending money to elect and defeat candidates. Most PACs represent business, labor or ideological interests. It’s the ideological interests where the trouble comes in. There is always a radical in the group. They want to get their person in office and will go to extreme measures to make that happen, even break the law.

The Marion County School race has done that again. One of the candidates has made charges of being threatened and bullied in hopes that she would drop out of the race. Some history…several races back, employees of the school system actually stole a candidate’s identity and tried to use it to their advantage. They were caught by the Marion County Sheriff’s office and were not even charged. They were not fired. Back then Sheriff Dean was in office and he was busy trying to damage control a scandal of his own when his person in charge got caught up in a problem. Continue reading
