On ‘Covid19’ – These (below) are “Quotes” from the press: Readers questions not answered!
Q-“Masks in a medical setting stop the wearer’s fluids from contaminating other patients”.

AISI-Why then should we not all wear a mask to protect those around us?

AISI-For the same reason, ask that people around us do the same?

Q-“Mask N95 was, at some point determined to be a safe for medical usage”.

AISI-N95, means only 95% protection. How many ‘Medic’ infections would have been avoided if N100 masks were used exclusively”.

Q-“Cost efficiency would also figure in as to why one was chosen over the other”.

AISI-Would the cost of prevention (N100 masks) be way less than what we are paying now for hospitalizations?

Q-“Each Governor must have the same rules and make sure that they are enforced”.

AISI-This is “AMERICA” – We don’t need a Mayor, Governor or even President to tell us what to do – Do we?

Q-“A cure is better than having to prevent something. Right now prevention is the only way to contain this virus”.

AISI-Doesn’t one sentence (above) contradict the other?

AISI-We can’t wait for a cure; Can we?

AISI-Surely we will choose to protect (prevention) our family, friends and co-workers. Or should we let them take their chances, and hope they get ‘cured’ before they die?

Q-“Masks and hand-washing alone do not stop this virus. Staying away from people does.”

AISI-We can’t “stay away from people” any longer-Can we?

Q-“N100 masks are harder to breathe through (significantly) and thus compliance with use is likely to be lower”.

AJP-Better for our ‘medics’ to use N100 than to get infected using N95 isn’t it?

Q-“Any reduction in spread by mask use, whether it limits particles or simple encourages safer behavior, will help”.

AISI-We agree! But, why is the use of masks, gloves etc not mandatory in every place of business (for staff AND customers!)?

-“Gloves would need to be repeatedly decontaminated, which is not realistic”.
AISI-And ‘HAND-WASHING’ every 10 minutes is ‘realistic’?

AISI-Use about 1″ of 70% alcohol in a lidded, shallow plastic tray.

One in the house, one in the car, one at the office etc. Immerse, gloved hands (Submerge for 20 seconds) any time you feel its needed. Gloves (latex or similar) can last for weeks.

Q-“Prevention is the only treatment we have right now, and the cost, without a vaccine, is enormous and unsustainable (ie the current shutdown)”.

AISI-If the ‘protections’ we are discussing here were in force, the ‘Shut-Down’ would not be needed-Would it?

AISI-‘Enforced’ means by you and by me – NOT the ‘government’!

AISI-If customers tell ‘managers’ “I can’t come to your business unless, you and all your staff are gloved and masked“. It wouldn’t take long to get it done-Would it?

Q-“A cure is needed before we can get back to anything resembling normal life”.

AISI-We can start getting back to a normal life tomorrow! At least, those of us described above can!

Q-“It will need 2 components–effective life-saving treatment for those infected and experiencing severe illness, and a vaccine to prevent further infections”.

AISI-But, for a year or more, we will have no cure and no vaccine–Will we? Right now, prevention is our only option!

Q-“Latex (or nitrile) gloves can still spread the disease by touching a contaminated surface, then a clean one, or ones own face! Effective, frequent hand-washing is better than gloves.”

AISI-As already discussed, you can’t have soap and water with you everywhere can you? (Talk about ‘impractical’!)

AISI-Widespread use of masks and frequently ‘sterilized’ gloves is the only ‘practical’ answer right now.

Q-“The public is currently (mis)using them–creating potentially infectious litter, and assuming gloves, even if not properly worn, removed and disposed of, are some kind of armor against infection. Masks, again, are seldom worn, handled and cleaned or disposed of properly, therefore cannot prevent transmission completely”.
AISI-From what we are told, nothing will prevent ‘transmission’ completely! If ‘the public’ was assured that wearing a mask and gloves everywhere outside of their home was essential, behavior might change! Telling us that its a waste of our time and our money encourages the very behavior which the writer is complaining about!

’til next time. . .
